Toulouse Capitole University has a story that stretches back almost eight centuries, to the founding of the Faculty of Canon Law by King Saint Louis in 1229, making it one of Europe’s oldest universities. Nestled in the heart of Toulouse, just a stone’s throw from the bustling Place du Capitole, the university offers its students and researchers a unique blend of tradition and modern city life. Walking through its streets, you can feel the history in the pink brick façades for which Toulouse, the “Pink City,” is famous, while also sensing the energy of a city that has grown into a hub of innovation in aerospace, space, and digital technologies. Though the university is historically known for its strength in law and economics, it has expanded far beyond its original disciplines. In particular, computer science has become a vibrant part of its identity, closely linked with the Toulouse Institute of Computer Science Research (IRIT). Founded in 1990, IRIT brings together several universities in Toulouse along with the CNRS and has grown into one of France’s leading computer science research centers. With over 600 researchers, faculty members, and doctoral students across about twenty teams, the laboratory explores fields from artificial intelligence and data management to software reliability, networks, and human–computer interaction. But IRIT is more than just a research center—it is a place where curiosity meets creativity. Students at Toulouse Capitole University are invited to participate in multidisciplinary projects that tackle real-world challenges, from technological innovation to societal and environmental issues.
