Tutorial #1: Social Network Analysis
Speaker: Bénédicte Le Grand

Download the presentation: (available soon)

Description:
After a brief introduction to social networks and social networks analysis (SNA) history, this tutorial will focus of social network analysis techniques and practical applications. We will in particular present various centrality measures, as well as traditional methods used in SNA such as community detection. Concepts like small-world or scale free-networks will also be introduced during this presentation. We will finally present SNA case studies in various application domains, among which information systems.

Short bio:
Bénédicte Le Grand is a full Professor at University Paris 1 Panthéon – Sorbonne since September 2012. She is a telecommunication engineer and has been Associate Professor at Université Pierre et Marie Curie for 10 years. Her research area is data (in particular graph) mining and the analysis of real-world complex networks such as the Internet or social networks. She has published her work in international journals and conferences and has contributed to several books. She is actively involved in a French working group dedicated to large graphs mining. She has also been working since 2004 as an expert for the European Commission.
Tutorial #2: Industrial Evaluation of Software Engineering Tools
Speakers: Tanja E.J. Vos and Nelly Condori Fernandez

Download the presentation: (available soon)

Description:
Doing empirical research with industry is getting more and more recognized as being very important in software testing. If we want to direct our research towards solving those problems that industry is facing, we should understand how our research results evaluate in a real industrial context. This tutorial introduces participants to empirical research for industrial evaluation of software egineering tools with a focus on software testing. It will present a methodological framework for designing studies and let participants get some feeling of problems and difficulties they might encounter when going to companies to evaluate their results through role-playing games.

Short bio:
Dr. Tanja E.J. Vos studied computer science at the University of Utrecht (The Netherlands) and obtained her PhD on formal verification in 2000 at the same university. She has more than 10 years of experience with formal methods and software testing. She is a lecturer at the Computation and Information Systems Department (DSIC) of the Technical University of Valencia (Spain), and carries out her research at the Center for Software Production Methods (ProS) where she leads the Software Testing & Quality (STaQ) group. She has been teaching for more than 20 years and has been involved in many research projects on software testing in an industrial setting. She has successfully coordinated the EU-funded EvoTest proposal from 2006 to 2009 and is currently coordinating the EU-funded FITTEST project on Future Internet Testing. She is also involved in various Erasmus and Leonardo initiatives that try to help business understand academia an vice versa.

Dr. Nelly Condori Fernandez is Assistant Professor of the VU University Amsterdam, and visiting researcher at the Research Centre on Software Production Methods of the Universidad Politecnica de Valencia (UPV), where she led the empirical software engineering line. She has a keen interest in software measurement, emotional usability, services-oriented requirements engineering, and model-driven development. She has been involved in several European projects like FITTEST, EFRASYS and ICEBERG. Besides, she serves as reviewer for several journals such as Journal of Systems and Software (JSS), Information and Software Technology (IST), Journal of Software Engineering and Knowledge Engineering (IJSEKE), as well as in program committees of various international conferences (e.g. ESEM, SEKE, QUATIC). She has also participated actively as second representative member of UPV in the International Network on Software Engineering, ISERN.
Tutorial #3: Demystifying Requirements Engineering practices in an agile environment; A pragmatic approach
Speaker: Cherifa Mansoura

Download the presentation: (available soon)

Description:
The RE is about finding the right requirements definition and management practices that help boost the system delivery process phases. The activities of elicitation, analysis, and validation are also present in any agile framework such as Scrum, “Disciplined Agile Delivery (DAD)”. The techniques used vary are not phase- driven as they are not as clearly separated as in the RE process - they are based on milestones and merge in some ways. In this tutorial, and using a light agile framework, the audience will explore the agile RE practices as described by the “agile extension” of the BA Body of knowledge (BABOK). Further more, this tutorial will offer the opportunity for the audience to benefit from years of experience of the instructor through well facilitated sessions and hands-on by linking the theory with the practice. Such a workshop leans towards the direction of engaging the attendees in agile environment and highlights the shift of the mind-set in the agile world.
